ARAB 150  Arabic for Professional Communication  3 Credits

This course is designed to develop proficiency in spoken and written Arabic and to enhance student’s communication skills in professional settings. It focuses on building language competence and performance through learning essential vocabulary, grammar structures, cultural insights, and practical application in professional settings. Emphasis will be placed on developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills with a focus on professional conversations, intercultural nuances, and formal presentations. Interactive activities such as role-plays, group discussions, and multimedia resources are utilized to reinforce language skills and understanding. The course introduces foundational translation strategies that facilitate intercultural understanding between Arabic and students’ languages. 
ARAB 152  Arabic Linguistics  3 Credits

Arabic Linguistics is a foundation course designed for students with little or no background in Linguistics. It aims at introducing students to the grammatical system of Arabic, focusing on morphology (word formation) and syntax (sentence structure), levels of meaning (semantics), cohesion as well as the social aspects of Arabic language use and how language varies depending on factors like dialect, register, and social context.
